## Pass 3 (flow & register fixes)

### F2 — Prof. Wei's credentials inconsistent (L9, L20)
- L9 (third-person intro): "Academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and research fellow at the Institute of World Religions"
- L20 (Sun's intro): "a member of the CASS academic committee" (OLD)
- Fixed L20: "an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences"
- Now consistent: "Academician" in both.

### F3 — "Buddhist practitioners ... looked upon with hope" subject error (L197)
- Source: 佛教都被社会大众赋予期望 (Buddhism is looked to with hope)
- Old EN: "Buddhist practitioners, both past and present, are looked upon with hope" (substituted practitioners for Buddhism)
- Fixed: "Buddhism, both past and present, is regarded with hope by the broader society"
- Also fixed: "as carriers of traditional culture" → "as a carrier" (Buddhism is singular)

### F4 — "monumental" second occurrence (L129)
- Source: 恢宏的西行求法运动 (grand westward movement)
- Fixed: "a monumental westward movement" → "a grand westward movement"

### F5 — "draw forth" (L237)
- Source: 得到新的精神资源 (obtain new spiritual resources)
- Old EN: "draw forth new spiritual resources" (over-formal)
- Fixed: "draw on new spiritual resources"

### F6 — "shoulder" (L257)
- Source: 承担更为重要的作用 (take a more important role)
- Old EN: "shoulder an even more significant role"
- Fixed: "take on an even more significant role"

### F7 — "bring ... into full play" (L265)
- Source: 发挥人类优势 (bring into play human strengths)
- Old EN: "bring humanity's strengths into full play" (calque)
- Fixed: "make the most of human strengths"

### F8 — "must" / "should" inconsistency in Section V (L281-309)
- 71, 72, 73 had mix of "should" / "must" / "must" (introduced by 71 fix)
- Standardized: "should serve as" for all three
- Kept "must" in 75 ("we must not think") and 77 ("Humanity must live together") — source is 一定要/必须

### F9 — "look to with hope" (L197)
- Source: 赋予期望 (entrust with hope)
- Fixed: "regarded with hope" (more natural)

## Quality notes

The piece reads as formal academic-symposium speech. Register is consistent throughout (Sun Yinggang's English voice is more conversational, Wei/Jiqun's is more formal — this matches the source's speaker differentiation). No major tonal drift between sections.
